Say Goodbye to Hot Flashes
Plant based diet makes significant difference
Imagine going from experiencing several hot flashes a day to experiencing virtually none at all? According to research published in the journal Menopause, it is very much possible with a plant-based diet!
Their research intervention focused exclusively on diet and included post-menopausal women who experienced at least two hot flashes a day. Women either followed their usual diet for 12 weeks, or were assigned to a low fat, vegan diet with ½ cup of cooked soybeans per day. Because the study took place during covid times participants were provided with a digital scale to monitor weights, an instant pot to prepare soybeans as needed as well as an app to track intensity and frequency of hot flashes.
The participants were thrilled with results. About 84% of women who experienced 4-5 intense hot flashes per day went down to about one per day. And about 60% of women eliminated hot flashes all together!
Researchers believe the vegan diet plus the benefit of soy’s isoflavones help the digestive tract maximize benefits from soy to counteract hot flashes. Almost 80% of postmenopausal women report experiencing hot flashes.
To get started:
Eliminate all animal products including chicken, fish, milk and cheese. Then simply add cooked soybeans to meals such as soups, chili or salads.
Cooked soybeans can easily be substituted for beans in our Roasted Corn, Black Bean, Avocado Salad or our Southern Veggie and Cannellini Bean Soup.
