Full of the joys of life – 5 things that we can learn from children

Full of the joys of life – 5 things that we can learn from children

Loud, cheerful and colourful – the world of children is often very different to the hectic everyday routine of “adults”. In this blog post, we show you why it is worthwhile regaining some of their light-heartedness. Our kids show us how in the way they live their lives. Let yourself be inspired – here are 5 things that we can learn from children:

1. Live in the here and now

Children live in the moment. For example, they enjoy playing outside in the sand RIGHT NOW, because the weather is lovely at the moment and it doesn’t matter if it rains tomorrow. One thing that we can learn from children is to brood less on the past and think less about the future. There are a lot of things in life that we cannot influence or change, so let’s just enjoy the here and now and make the best of it.

2. Laugh easily

Can you remember the last time you laughed heartily? It’s probably a while ago, as children actually laugh a lot more frequently than adults do. It’s worth doing – laughter leads to happiness! Children can also really laugh at themselves, a trait that will make the everyday life of adults a lot easier. Take life easy!

3. Enjoy your food

Counting calories, sticking to a strict diet, eating only at specific times or even having a guilty conscience after a delicious meal – all of these concepts are quite alien to children. Kids eat what they like and they love to experiment with food. They like colourful dishes and are delighted by unusual combinations of flavours and textures. We can learn (again) from children how to deal with food in a relaxed and fun way. After all, food is supposed to, first and foremost, satisfy us and make us happy. Here at Dole, we also like to keep it colourful and quirky: how about a pineapple and veggie burger, a vegan banana split with berries or some fruity Flammkuchen rolls?

4. Stay curious

With their eyes wide open as they go through the world, kids are little explorers, discovering something new every day. It doesn’t matter if it’s other people, leafy hollows during a walk in the forest or new games. Children ask questions and want to know the exact details of everything. One of the things that we can learn from children is to greet the unknown with an open heart and without preconceptions. This might mean simply asking a new neighbour how they are or having a go at a new hobby that you normally wouldn’t dare to try.

5. Be honest

Children don’t mince their words. If something doesn’t suit them, they will usually communicate that quite clearly. This is an admirable trait: as adults, we frequently conceal our honest opinion. But problems that are not addressed only get bigger. Honesty is the best policy in the long run. Give your opinion.

Children are powerful role models!
