Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples are Antioxidant Superfoods because they have a high ORAC value. In fact, a USDA study published in the June 2004 issue of J. Agric Food Chem. found that Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples ranked eighth and ninth, respectively, in total antioxidant capacity (TAC) per serving out of over 100 common foods (fruits and vegetables, cereals, nuts, etc.) tested. Research suggests antioxidants can help neutralize the free radicals (unstable oxygen molecules) associated with accelerated aging and DNA degradation!
